How SGS Is Growing for UK Trades: From More Traffic to Better Enquiries
Two months into Social Growth Systems and I can officially confirm one thing: starting a business involves an alarming amount of staring at screens and saying,
But SGS is growing. Not in the dramatic “I made six figures while drinking coffee on a beach” way. In the much more useful way.
For me, that means building better marketing systems for UK trades and construction businesses around visibility, trust and enquiries.
The first numbers gave me something useful to work with
The useful part was not a nice-looking follower count. It was finally having behaviour to analyse.
The 5.9K organic views snapshot and the paid experiment are separate evidence. These are SGS's own-business figures, not client results.
People were seeing SGS and paid traffic was producing clicks, but the experiment did not produce a sale. So instead of immediately shouting “MORE TRAFFIC! MORE CONTENT! MORE ADS!”, I did the slightly less exciting but much more sensible thing.
SGS is becoming much more specific about marketing for UK trades
When I started, I knew I wanted to help trades and local businesses with social media and advertising. Two months later, that has become much sharper.
I help UK trades and construction businesses turn a strong offline reputation into trust online.
Can somebody find the business? When they do, does what they see give them enough reason to trust it? And once they are interested, is the next step obvious enough to take?
That now sits behind pretty much everything I am building. Conveniently, it is also easier to remember than the approximately 847 marketing terms available on LinkedIn.
The website stopped trying to make everyone read everything
Earlier versions tried very hard to explain SGS. Possibly too hard. There is a point where “helpful information” quietly turns into:
So I started simplifying. The biggest change was making the journey depend on what somebody actually needs.
You do not need to understand my entire service catalogue before contacting me. You answer a short routing question first, then I come back to you with the sensible next step.
The offers finally have different jobs
I spent a ridiculous amount of time making sure the services did not sound like slightly different versions of the same thing. The starting point now depends on the problem, not the package name.
I built a proper proof system
SGS is still a young business, so I made a decision early: I am not going to pretend I have results that I do not have. I would rather show exactly what can be demonstrated than manufacture authority.
That is what the SGS Proof Hub is for. Slightly slower than pretending. Much less embarrassing later.
Why more traffic is not always the answer for a trade business
Marketing advice online has a habit of turning every problem into “post more”, “run ads” or “increase reach”. But if somebody clicks and the business behind the click is confusing, more traffic just sends more people into the same problem.
That is why I have spent this month working on enquiry paths, contact routes, service clarity, proof and tracking. It is also why I will tell somebody not to run Meta Ads yet if I think the business behind the advert is not ready for the traffic.
I realise this is a slightly odd business model for somebody offering Facebook and Instagram Ads for trades. But I'd rather have a client later than waste their money now.

I started building tools, not just services
This month SGS moved beyond “here is what I sell”. I started building things people can actually use before they decide whether they need me.
The free 5-Minute Enquiry Path Check is one example. Fix Before You Spend takes the idea further with a guided customer-journey check, a practical fix workflow and an Enquiry Tracker.
That is the direction I want SGS to keep moving in. Useful first. Selling second.
Tracking enquiries became considerably less optional
Another slightly unglamorous development: tracking, UTMs, GA4, source attribution, form routes and link-in-bio tracking. Things nobody puts on a motivational Instagram graphic.
But I want to know whether something is actually working. “This Reel got 2,000 views” is not enough on its own.
The business looks very different after two months
This is probably the part I forget to notice because I see SGS every day. Eight weeks ago I was building the starting point. Now there is a clearer niche, a rebuilt website journey, clearer services, a Proof Hub, lead magnets, Ads Readiness, tracking, reporting structures and a growing library of processes and tools.
There is still plenty to build. But SGS is no longer just an idea and a website. It is becoming a system.
And yes, there is still plenty to figure out
Of course there is. I am two months in. If I had somehow solved the entire marketing industry by September, somebody should probably be concerned.
But I am much clearer about what SGS is becoming. I do not want to sell businesses endless content for the sake of keeping a posting calendar full.
I want to help good trades businesses make the reputation they already have offline much easier to see and trust online, then make it easier for the right customer to take the next step.
That is what I am building. One page. One test. One slightly obsessive spreadsheet at a time.
If this sounds familiar in your own business
You do not necessarily need more marketing. You may need to find the part of the journey that is not doing its job.
